Ogar ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your personal data and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we use and protect it when you use ogar.in (the "Platform").

By using the Platform, you consent to the data practices described in this Policy. This Policy is in compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) of India.

2. Data We Collect

We collect the following information:

• Email address — used for account registration, email OTP verification, and Google sign-in identity.
• Phone number — mandatory when completing your profile; used internally by the Ogar team for review and verification purposes only. Not shared with other users without your explicit consent.
• Name and profile information — provided by you when setting up your profile, or prefilled from your Google account when you sign in with Google.
• Profile photo — optionally uploaded by you, or prefilled from your Google account photo when available.
• Listing content — the text, preferences, and details you submit when posting a room.
• Application data — the personalised introduction messages generated when applying for listings.
• Usage data — pages visited, filters applied, listings viewed, and other interactions with the Platform.
• Device and browser data — collected automatically for security, performance, and fraud prevention purposes.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

• Verify your identity via email OTP or Google sign-in during registration and login.
• Review user accounts and listings for authenticity, spam, and policy compliance.
• Display and AI-structure room listings for searchability.
• Match Seekers with relevant listings based on preferences and filters.
• Enable in-app chat between Listers and approved applicants.
• Improve the Platform, our AI accuracy, and user experience.
• Send important service-related communications about your account, applications, and messages.
• Send occasional marketing emails such as new listing digests and product or community updates. You can unsubscribe anytime via the link in those emails.

4. Phone Number — Internal Use Only

Your phone number is collected when you complete your profile for internal verification and review by the Ogar team. It is not displayed publicly or shared with other users by default. It will only be shared with another user if you explicitly opt in to share your contact details with them.

5. Contact Detail Sharing

Neither your email address nor your phone number is shared with any other user by default. Contact details between a Seeker and a Lister are only exchanged when both parties independently and explicitly opt in to share them. You remain in full control of your contact information at all times.

6. AI Processing of Listing Text

When you post a listing, our AI reads the text you provide and extracts structured details (such as rent, location, furnishing preferences, and gender preference) to make your listing searchable. The original text you submit is stored as provided. This processing is done solely to improve search and matching on the Platform.

7. Data Sharing with Third Parties

We do not sell your personal data to any third party. We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:

• With trusted service providers who assist us in operating the Platform (such as hosting, email delivery, or analytics providers), under strict confidentiality obligations.
• With Google, when you choose to sign in with Google — Google receives authentication requests according to Google's privacy policy; we receive your email, name, and profile photo as shared by Google.
• When required by applicable law, court order, or a lawful request from a government or regulatory authority.
• To protect the rights, safety, or property of Ogar, its users, or the public.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide our services. If you request deletion of your account, we will remove your personal data within a reasonable time, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes.

We may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience, remember your preferences, and analyse usage of the Platform. You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings; however, doing so may affect some features of the Platform.

We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Platform after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy. We recommend reviewing this page periodically.
